MGM #1 minutes

Event Minutes posted by Bobby Shen on February 13, 2013

MGM #1 minutes

Event:
MGM #1 - First meeting for 2013!

We had an excellent turnout last night at AFH AKL's first meeting for a year! 14 people came along, many fresh faces and keen to get into some social architecture! Meetings will be first Wednesday of every month, same place, same time.

The majority of posts and opportunities will be put up on the Chapter Network, rather than emailed, so join as a member of Auckland Chapter now.

What:          AFH MGM #1
When:         Wednesday 13 February, 6.00pm - 7.30pm
Where:        Jasmax, 2 Marston Street, Parnell, Auckland.

MINUTES

1 General Updates

  1. Christchruch: Josh joined us from Christchurch and told us a bit about the work that's been happening there. (Creative Quarter, Gap Filler, etc)

2 Projects

  1. HELP Auckland (Bobby)
Ongoing building alteration, currently awaiting client feedback.
Waiting on earthquake reports and Bobby to touch base with Gary Lawson. Team meeting next Monday and if any more people required, will post on Chapter Network.
  2. Winton opportunity (Darren) - Darren informed us that due to lack of funding it will probably be a while before anything happens (building extension and building a play fort). Suggested that we ask Darren if he would like us to assemble a team of people who could do some drawings - may help with garnering support and funding.
  3. Possible Napier project (Andy) - Andy's entry to the AFH UNrestricted Access Challenge last year was a finalist entry. Napier City Council is interested in having this project built but planning and heritage issues that may take a while to resolve. A team could do some prelim work (planning issues, formalise design, prepare drawings for planner/council consumption). Heather suggested Salmond Reed, who work with a lot of heritage architecture) might assist. Ellen has worked in Council for some time, so could help. Opportunity will be posted on Chapter Network to sign up soon.

  4. Glulam opportunity (Bobby) - First meeting on Tuesday, information session. Highlighted that it would be best to check the useability of the material before allocating to community groups.
  5. Mangere East (Bobby) - idling project, community leader will contact us re further progress.
  6. Guerilla Playspaces (Alex) - guerrilla-style interactive play spaces for people of all ages including children, to make our Auckland CBD more family friendly and fun. Has parallels with our work with Space Invaders. Alex will keep us in the loop about this and any opportunities.

2 Initiatives

  1. Members Drive - at UoA, Unitec and AUT. Please let us know if you want to help.
  2. Round the Bays - 10th March, annual social event. Many are keen, email bobby@afh-auckland.org to join us!
  3. Architecture+Women and Auckland Architecture Week - we may be able to take part in this somehow. Will keen in touch about projects/involvement with Megan Rule.
  4. YIMFY - Yes In My Front Yard! Sustainable building technologies initiative. Contact yimfynz@gmail.com for more info.
  5. Warrior Dash (Lorraine + Jen) - 6th April - running through mud and muck to get us away from our CAD computers http://www.warriordash.com/

3 Miscellaneous

  1. Andy's trip photos to Venice Biennale and the AFH exhibition there to be shown at next MGM.

Feel free to jump into the opportunities listed above, especially if you have expertise in certain areas. The team at AFH AKL are still firming up some details about various projects, we will let you know and post them as an 'opportunity' on the Chapter Network.
